Ford Explorer Platinum Brings New Levels of Luxury
For 2016 Ford is adding a new Platinum edition to the Explorer lineup, which will bring new levels of luxury never seen before on a Ford SUV. The Ford Explorer Platinum will be a combination of the performance features from the Explorer Sport and the comfort-focused features of the Limited trim level.
Some of the biggest upgrades will be inside the new Explorer Platinum, with new multi-adjustable front seats wrapped in Nirvana leather with micro-perforation and an all-new 500-watt premium Sony Audio System with high-end features like Live Acoustics and Clear Phase technologies.
The interior materials are all high-quality, with real aluminum and ash wood surfaces on the door and instrument panels, a wood and leather-wrapped heated steering wheel and a 10-inch digital display in the instrument cluster. Nirvana leather wraps the door bolsters and trim, console armrests and instrument panel.
The Explorer Platinum also comes standard with lots of smart technology, like rain-sensing wipers, parallel park assist and a lane-keeping system. New for this year is an enhanced active park assist system that can help drivers back their vehicle into a perpendicular spot.
Exterior enhancements include LED headlamps with signature lighting surrounds, a standard dual-panel moonroof, silver-painted front and rear skid plates and 20-inch wheels with machined faces and dark painted pockets.
All Explorer Platinum models will come equipped with a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V6 that produces 365 hp, paired with a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission. Also standard is intelligent four-wheel-drive with Terrain Management System for excellent on and off-road performance on virtually any terrain.
