Ford Adds More Streaming Options to Expedition and EcoSport
Ford is adding more ways for drivers and passengers to access entertainment in their vehicles for the 2018 model year with the all-new Expedition and EcoSport SUVs. Some of the new features include a dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system, available Wi-Fi hotspot and an exclusive B&O PLAY Premium Audio System by HARMAN.
More consumers in the U.S. are steaming music, movies, podcasts and television shows to their devices than ever before, and Ford wanted to make it easier to access these services on the go.
The 2018 Ford Expedition features an available Wi-Fi hotspot that can support up to 10 devices at once at up to 50 feet from the vehicle. The dual-headrest rear seat entertainment system allows passengers to watch live TV via SlingPlayer which connects to the user’s home Slingbox account.
Passengers will be able to control the rear seat entertainment system using a mobile app on their iOS or Android device, and can even stream content from their devices using either Miracast or SmartStream. Content can also be viewed via DVD, HDMI, USB and SD card.
Stream-friendly technology is also coming to the 2018 Ford EcoSport, which will offer Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM radio and multiple USB ports. Ford is replacing the CD player in the EcoSport with more choices for on-demand music streaming services, in addition to more interior space for mobile devices and other personal items.
