Tuesday Tech Tips – 911 Assist with SYNC
By: Jimmie Mathews – SYNC Expert
911 Assist® (if equipped) is a SYNC® system feature that can call for help if you’re in an accident. 911 Assist uses your Bluetooth-paired and connected phone to initiate a 9-1-1 call directly to local responders, even if you are unable to reach the necessary controls. After relaying details of the accident and your vehicle’s location, 911 Assist will open the line so that you can speak directly with the 9-1-1 Call Taker. If you or your passengers are not able to respond, 911 Assist help provide important information so you can get the help you need.
Standard feature – No subscription fee, for the life of the vehicle. No competitor provides this as a free, standard feature beyond a trial period on all vehicles offered.
911 assist must be set to “ON” when first pairing the phone in order to activate the system.
Contacts the local 911 dispatcher directly, no 3rd party call center. When seconds matter, 911 Assist will get you help faster than anyone other system out there.
Works as long as the phone and vehicle’s electrical systems are still functional after the crash.
WHAT HAPPENS IF YOUR PHONE NO LONGER WORKS?
It is a good idea to have multiple phones paired up with the system. Up to 12 devices can be paired up with your SYNC system in your vehicle. Anyone that rides in the vehicle on a regular basis can be paired up. If you happen to have an accident and your phone is damaged, the system will automatically pair up with the next phone that is available for a 911 phone call.
ICE – In Case of Emergency Contacts
With MyFord Touch, there is a menu in which your ICE contacts can be entered into the system for easy access in the event of an emergency situation.
